Euphrasia
This plant has a long history of use for eye problems, hence the name of Eyebright. When used appropriately, eyebright will reduce inflammation in the eye caused by blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelash follicles) and conjunctivitis (inflammation or infection of the membrane lining the eyelids).  According to researchers, Eyebright herb contains many chemical, organic and nutritional properties that may not only aid in treating eye problems but also may help with a number of other health conditions. It contains vitamins B, C, E, and beta-carotene, alkaloids, antioxidants such as caffeic acids, ferulic acids and flavonoids, iridoid glycosides, defensive compounds, tannins and volatile oils.

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne pepper is a great source of vitamin A.  When it comes to visual acuity, we want to be concerned about both the muscles of the eye and the iris, as well as with the health of the photoreceptors in the back of the eye – our rods and cones. Taking cayenne pepper daily may help you see better.

Bilberry
What makes this berry so phenomenal is that it contains naturally-producing chemicals known as anthocyanosides. Anthocyanosides are plant pigments that have powerful antioxidant properties. One study showed that bilberry had positive effects on vision in lower light environments.  These antioxidants scavenge the body for free radicals, with the intention of helping to prevent or reverse damaged cells. Due to the anthocyanosides, bilberry is widely used to improve night vision or vision handicaps in low light, decreasing vascular permeability and capillary fragility. It was reported that during World War II, British fighter pilots had improved nighttime vision after eating bilberry jam. Bilberry has been suggested as a treatment for retinopathy, which is damage to the retina. Bilberry has also exhibited protective effects against and macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts.

Parsley
Parsley is great for your eyes and is used as a natural medicine to heal various conditions while improving your vision. Taking Parsley regularly helps to make sure that your body gets the vitamins and nutrients that you need to develop your own ‘eagle vision’ and see better than before. Parsley is rich in vitamin C, keratin and iron while also working as an antispasmodic, antiseptic, and natural detoxifier. Additional carotenoids present in parsley include lutein and zeaxanthin, which offer more antioxidant benefits for good eye health.  These compounds work to neutralize damage caused by UV radiation and other environmental influences that may lead to macular degeneration.  According to the American Optometric Association, the consumption of lutein and zeaxanthin helps reduce risks for cataracts.  In addition, lutein has been found to inhibit glycation, a process where sugar bonds with protein to form advanced glycation end products that can damage the retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue that lines the back of the eye.

Green tea
Special antioxidants called flavonoids in Green tea leaves help protect the eyes against diseases such as cataracts, age-related macular degeneration and some types of glaucoma. One particular flavonoid known as gallocatechin collects in the retina and  protects the retina against dangerous UV rays, operating like sunscreen for your eyes. Green tea is also helpful in slowing down the progress of age-related eye disorders.

Gingko Biloba
Gingko Biloba has long been known to improve blood circulation, presumably by reducing the tendency of blood to clot and thus help maintain blood flow to sensitive tissues, such as the brain and optic nerve. Improved blood flow to these organs, the researchers reasoned, may ease the course of glaucoma. Researchers note that visual field improvement may result from either improved retinal ganglion cell function or improved cognitive function. At this point, it is unclear whether ginkgo’s neuroprotective benefit is derived from improved blood flow to the brain or to the eyes, or both. Regardless, ginkgo has multiple benefits.
